It seems that 2019 wasn't a good year for Korean Entertainment industry since there is a lot of bad news surrounding the year, although people might think that 2018 could be the worst. Here are several bad news this year of 2019:

1. Wanna one disbandment

Although many fans already know that it's a temporary group for the popular survival program, produce 101, doesn't mean that it isn't a bad news for the fans. They might have prepared themselves with the inevitable disbandment, but it never be enough time to cope with the farewell.

2. Jenny blackpink and Exo Kai break up

We might have a good news about a dating news for two ideal couple of kpop scene, yet, in under 2 months, there is already a break up news for this beautiful couple. Nothing is forever, especially in dating for kpop idols. It seems that both the agency doesn't want their idols to date with each other because of the long time rivalry between YG and SM entertainment, and because both of Jenny and Kai are their valuable assets.

3. Seungri's burning sun scandal

The Burning Sun scandal, also known as the Burning Sun gate, is a 2019 entertainment and sex scandal in Seoul, South Korea which involved several celebrities, including Korean idols of popular K-pop groups, and police officials. It surprised a lot of kpop fans because it's such a big issues back then. Systemic corruption has allowed the country’s ruling class to act above the law and women are paying the price.

Moon ordered investigations not just into Burning Sun, but into the police force, due to accusations of cover-ups at the club and others in the Gangnam and Hongdae districts, and also into alleged crimes committed by Kim Hak-eui in 2009 and Jang Ja-yeon’s death the same year.

Kim Hak-eui resigned from his role of vice justice minister in 2013 after video emerged of him allegedly raping a woman at a sex party at the home of businessman Yoon Jung-cheon five years earlier. The case was investigated twice in 2013 and 2014 but was thrown out despite the video, with prosecutors arguing that Kim could not be identified. An independent panel under the Ministry of Justice has concluded the original investigations were flawed and Kim has now been indicted on charges of receiving 170 million won ($143,700) and sexual favors in bribes from a construction contractor. The investigation did not confirm the rape allegation.

The tragic case of actress Jang Ja-yeon, who said she had been forced into sex by her agency, has also been reviewed. Jang, who starred in the K-drama TV hit Boys over Flowers, killed herself in 2009, leaving a seven-page note identifying 20 of the men allegedly involved, including influential figures in the entertainment and media industry. The review found that the police and prosecution failed to properly investigate her death, but as the list could not be found, there was not enough evidence to re-open the case.

4. Girlgroup Pristin disbandment

According to the report, the members and Pledis Entertainment held discussions and ultimately decided on disbandment. Pledis Entertainment confirmed the news and revealed that members Nayoung, Roa, Yuha, Eunwoo, Rena, Xiyeon, and Kyla have terminated their contracts with the agency. Kyulkyung, Yehana, and Sungyeon will be staying with Pledis Entertainment. PRISTIN was Pledis Entertainment’s first girl group following After School. Seven members were known prior to debut through Mnet’s “Produce 101” with Kyulkyung and Nayoung becoming final members of IOI. Members Kyulkyung, Yehana, and Sungyeon expressed their intent to stay with the company. We will actively support Kyulkyung, Yehana, and Sungyeon so that they can have stable individual activities. We will wholeheartedly support them so that they can be more active and have more diverse activities. As for the PRISTIN members who will be leaving our agency, we would like to express our deep thanks to them and sincerely support them and their new paths even though their official contracts have ended.

5. Kpop boygroup, boyfriend disbandment

On May 17, the agency posted a video to Boyfriend’s official Twitter account, pulling together various video clips showing the members’ happy and smiling faces.

Starship announced the disbandment as they wrote in the caption, “We sincerely thank them for their passion and heart as proud artists of Starship. We will not forget all the moments we’ve had together.”

We had serious discussions with the members of Boyfriend about future activities, and after much deliberation, we have come to the agreement to official end group activities on May 16, 2019 with the conclusion of their contract.

7. Kang daniel dispute with his previous agency

The dispute between Kang Daniel and his company LM Entertainment. September 27, 2019: Legal Dispute Ends. At 8:20 AM, Yonhap News [Reporter Lee Eunjung 이은정 ] reported that according to the Korean Entertainment Management Association (CEMA), the contract dispute between Kang Daniel and LM Entertainment is officially over. Both sides agreed to end their dispute and terminate the exclusive contract to prevent any further damages.[s] [soompi] LM and KONNECT confirmed and provided statements around 10 AM.[s] [s] KONNECT’s statement ranked among the most viewed articles in Naver. Fans celebrated with the #KangDanielisFree hashtag. LM made a statement on Daniel’s LM fancafe that old SNS would be deleted. Now Kang daniel can appear on any tv show he wanted to be.

8. Hanbin (BI) drugs scandal, kick out from IKON

Hours after the news broke that iKON’s leader B.I allegedly attempted to purchase marijuana and LSD in 2016, the idol announced his departure from the K-pop group in an Instagram post. His company, YG Entertainment, quickly confirmed the termination of his contract.

YG Entertainment stocks took another hit following this development. As of June 12, the company’s stocks were valued at 31,950 KRW (or $27), which Soompi reported as a 4.05% drop from the previous day.

9. Kangin left super junior 

Super Junior member Kangin has announced that he’s leaving the K-pop group. He was an original member of the boyband when it debuted 14 years ago in 2005. Kangin has been on hiatus since 2017 after allegedly getting into a brawl at a drinking establishment. He’s also had a couple of drink driving convictions.

12. Byung chan left produce x 101 due to health issue

On 11 July, Choi Byung-Chan, a contestant in the K-pop survival reality show Produce X 101, was revealed to be leaving the programme due to health reasons. ... Choi Byung-Chan has been suffering from chronic achilles tendonitis for a while, and the pain has intensified recently, overlapping with his mental stress.

14. Twice Mina's anxiety problem, hiatus on twice activities

Unfortunately, fans won't be seeing TWICE's Mina at the girl group's activities any time soon. The girl group member is taking an extended break from the group's promotions and events to focus on her mental health. Just today, JYP Entertainment, the parent company of TWICE, made a statement on their online portal to explain the K-pop star's decision.

"After checking with specialised medical institutions, it was confirmed that anxiety disorder is the diagnosis for Mina's current health condition," the agency wrote.

15. Voting scandal and Produce 101 controversies
CJ ENM-owned broadcaster Mnet is facing legal action as its talent show Produce X 101 comes under fire for alleged vote manipulation. Seoul-based legal firm MAST Law & Consulting is representing a group of 272 viewers who have filed a legal complaint against the South Korean music channel, accusing Mnet of fraud and obstruction of business, and alleging that the business altered vote counts following the show’s July finale. Airing from May to July, Produce X 101 is the fourth edition of the Mnet reality show and sees members of the public forming a boy band by voting in for their favourite singers. Of the 101 trainees, who originate from various talent agencies, 11 are ultimately chosen. The viewers behind the complaint claim to have noticed a recurring pattern in the votes – each of which costs around 8 cents per text-in vote – for certain contestants. According to The Korea Herald, the top contestant received 29,978 more votes than the runner-up, with the same gap recurring for pairs of other contestants.

It has been a lot of changes since last year’s census results for the soloists. For the first time ever, Chungha has taken the first place for favorite solo artist on r/kpop. Last year she was at 4th place. Taeyeon has gone from 2nd place to 4th place. Sunmi climbed from 7th place to 3rd place. Taemin has climbed from 9th place to 5th place.

Some of the new additions to the top 10 soloists are Heize, who climbed from last year’s 11th place to 9th place. RM went from last year’s 17th place up to 10th place.G-Dragon has dropped out of the top 10 favorite soloists, he previously had the 6th place, now he has the 13th place. The biggest drop was Zico, who was 10th place last year and dropped to 23rd place.

Hyuna, interestingly enough, hasn’t released any music since she was part of Triple H’s Retro Future in June of last year. She is the only soloist in the top 10 to have not released any music since the last census.

Favorite Groups
Throughout the census there have been two groups fighting neck and neck for the top spot of r/kpop’s favorite group. And, for the first time, we welcome TWICE to the top of the throne! They were voted by 36.4% of our subreddits users. They just narrowly beat Red Velvet, which were voted by 35.8%. Only 46 votes differentiated these two groups. (The mods may have been taking bets on this in the final days of the census. . .)

Two groups have dropped out of the top 10 this year. SHINee and BigBang. Last year, SHINee was voted to the 9th place, but has now dropped down to 13th place. BigBang went from 7th place last year to 23rd place.

That means there are two new groups added to the top 10. We welcome (G)I-DLE and Mamamoo to 7th and 9th place respectively. Last year (G)I-DLE was placed at 15th place and Mamamoo at 11th.

Other noteworthy bits in the top 10, LOONA and Blackpink swapped their positions for this year’s results. Girls’ Generation dropped from 5th place to 10th place since last year’s results.

Girl grup rookie TWICE sukses melangsungkan comeback pertama mereka dengan merilis musik video 'Cheer Up'.

Di tengah kesuksesan tersebut, pastinya masih banyak penggemar yang bertanya-tanya apa maksud yang tersimpan di dalam musik video 'Cheer Up'. Karena musik video TWICE kali ini memang mengusung konsep yang sedikit unik.

Kira-kira apa makna dari musik video 'Cheer Up' milik TWICE? KpopChartNet secara eksklusif akan mengupas satu persatu makna dari adegan dalam musik video tersebut.

Musik video 'Cheer Up' dimulai dengan adegan anggota TWICE saat sedang mempersiapkan sebuah pesta. Yup, bisa ditebak kalau TWICE sedang mempersiapkan sebuah pesta kostum. Namun bukan pesta kostum biasa, karena para anggota akan menggunakan kostum karakter-karakter film lawas.

Pesta kostum film lawas ini dimulai dengan munculnya seorang pria yang menggunakan topeng kamera generasi pertama. Ia lalu memunculkan sebuah lensa, yang akan mengubah penampilan anggota TWICE menjadi lebih nyata.

1. Nayeon

Nayeon menjadi anggota TWICE pertama yang memperlihatkan karakter yang ia perankan. Seperti yang terlihat dalam foto di atas, Nayeon tampak sedang memegang telepon rumah dengan ekspresi ketakutan. Rupanya ia sedang memainkan karakter dari film horor 'Scream' yang populer pada tahun 1996 silam.

2. Mina

Setelah Nayeon, giliran Mina yang memperlihatkan kostum yang ia kenakan. Jika dilihat sekilas, Mina hanya terlihat menggunakan seragam siswi khas Jepang. Namun tidak cuma itu, karena ternyata ia memerankan karakter utama dari film lawas Jepang yang berjudul 'Love Letter'. Film arahan Shunji Iwai ini sempat populer ketika pertama kali ditayangkan pada tahun 1995.

3. Sana

Jika kalian akrab dengan kartun yang satu ini, pasti tidak susah menebak karakter apa yang diperankan oleh Sana. Yup, Sana memang memerankan karakter dari kartun populer 'Sailor Moon' pada tahun 1992 silam. Kemiripan sangat jelas terlihat pada gaya rambut yang ia gunakan.

4. Momo

Momo kembali memerankan karakter dari sebuah kartun populer. Berbeda dengan Sana, Momo memerankan karakter kartun bergenre aksi dan kriminal yang bertajuk 'Ghost In The Shell'. Serial ini pertama kali ditayangkan pada tahun 1995.

5. Jungyeon

Karakter yang diperankan oleh Jungyeon mungkin sedikit asing di mata penggemar. Namun tidak bagi para pemirsa film lawas 'Chungking Express'. Jungyeon rupanya memerankan karakter utama dari film romansa Perancis, yang sangat populer pada tahun 1995.

6. Jihyo

Jihyo menjadi anggota TWICE yang memerankan karakter cheerleader. Ia memerankan karakter dari film 'Bring It On' yang memang mengambil tema cheerleader. Film yang digawangi oleh Kirsten Dunt ini pertama kali ditayangkan pada tahun 2000.

7. Chaeyoung

Chaeyoung menjadi anggota TWICE yang memerankan karakter film terlawas. Seperti yang terlihat dalam musik video, Chaeyoung tampil dengan menggunakan kostum cowgirl. Ia memerankan karakter utama wanita dalam film 'Gunslinger', yang ditayangkan pertama kali pada tahun 1956 silam.

8. Dahyun

Dahyun menjadi satu-satunya anggota TWICE yang memerankan karakter film Korea. Dahyun tampak begitu cantik saat memerankan karakter gisaeng dari film 'Hwang Jin Yi'. Film 'Hwang Jin Yi' ini ditayangkan pada tahun 2007 dan diperankan oleh aktris Song Hye Kyo.

9. Tzuyu

Terakhir adalah si cantik Tzuyu. Dalam musik video ini ia tampak begitu elegan dengan gaun berwarna gelap. Dengan konsep warna hitam dan putih, Tzuyu sukses membawa kita kembali ke tahun 1961 untuk mengenang film 'Breakfast At Tiffany' yang diperankan oleh aktris legendaris, Audrey Hepburn.
